Quenchers and Rooney Mara

Posted on March 26, 2012

In an earlier post I mentioned a mate of mine, recluse author Clive Javanski. We did take that little trip and more on that later. But we also stopped at Quencher’s Saloon in Chicago – not too far from an old apartment of mine and my favorite little  dive bar, Mickey’s. If someone asked me to list my favorite drinky hangouts in the city Quenchers would be in the top 5. I’m not gonna go into all the details and  history of the place, and I’m not really an expert. But it’s where I had my first ever pint of O.K. Beer Okocim.

It’s where I played Cibo Matto on the jukebox on a first date. She was impressed just a little more with that than the wonderfully tasty free popcorn.

They have some really interesting bands, like them:

I once spent one of the hottest July 3rd’s ever there. It was ass-crowded and there was a promotion where for every Rolling Rock you purchased, you earned a chance at a hip bike hanging on the wall. I got a lot of tickets, didn’t win, and vowed never to drink Rolling Rock again.

Because I’m still sorta in this blog’s fashion week. I’d say this qualifies somewhat. I finally saw The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo (American version). Rooney Mara, Rooney Mara, Rooney Mara.

Which Rooney would I prefer to date?

Social Network Rooney

or

I would share several pints and more with each.

My beloved Doc Martens

Another entry of nwidodgy’s “fashion week.”

My beloved and trusted steel toe Doc Martens. They’ve been through a lot in their 10 years or so – many girlfriends, dive bars, a few different countries, a couple different Jeeps, several theater productions, and so on.

And concerts. In fact, I apologize to all the gals and their little feet that they’ve stepped at crowded venues like Metro, Empty Bottle, Gogarty’s, Traxx, etc.

It’s nwidodgy fashion week! Inspired by lookbook.nu, and from my 25 cent purchase of an Old Navy sweater at a local thrift store, I’ve decided to highlight some fashion. Old, new, whatever.

For starters, this is a favorite T-shirt of mine. In honor of Winona Ryder following her theft charge and arrest in the early 2000s, I believe.
