Best use of a song in a film

Somebody asked me about the lesbian kiss mentioned in the “I’ve Kissed” post a little while back. That story will come. But it got me to thinking about other kisses and what, if any, music accompanied them. Then I thought about the use of particular songs in films. Not necessarily for kissing scenes – just in general. There are those well-known ones (“Sister Christian” in Boogie Nights, etc.) but I’ve focused on what are believe are lesser-known gems. My rule is the song had to play a particular role in the film. It could not just be on the soundtrack. It can’t be a musical. The character(s) know it’s there. They could hear it. They played it. So with a little commentary, here’s the Dodgy list.…

How To Fix The Emmys

Or at least make them more interesting. Winners in every category are automatically disqualified for the following year. So Homeland would not be eligible for best drama next year. What does this do? It would give another deserving show, like Treme, a shot at a well-deserved nomination.  I first thought of this when Mad Men was winning every year. And really, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart – ten consecutive wins? Are you freakin’ kidding me? And we’d get a year of Emmy relief from Modern Family. Overlooked shows Treme Shameless Californication Don’t Trust The Bitch in Apt. B William Macy (Shameless) deserved a nomination at least, if not the award over Jon f’ing Cryer. There might have to be some new categories, like…

The L Word – The Movie

I just like how that looks.  The L Word – The Movie. Weren’t there rumours about it? I think so? C’mon llene, make it happen. News came out last week that HBO is considering a Bored to Death movie. And that ladies and gentlemen, we raise a pint to. I’m a big fan of the show and was looking forward to a fourth season. But I’ll take a 90 minute “Bored” film. I also wish that consideration was given to several other shows no longer on the air. So that leads to another feckin’ list.
